Jasper History
The first recorded visit to Athabasca Valley was in 1810, by David Thompson. In 1813, the North West company built a supply depot on Brule Lake. Which would be known as Jasper House. Jasper House was named after the North West Company clerk Jasper Hawes. Later, when the fur trade started to decline the Jasper House was abandoned in 1884. The government then established Jasper Forest Park in 1907. The government set aside 13 000 square kilometers of land for the park. It was granted national park status in 1930.
